Ros-Lehtinen Contacts State Authorities Urging Them To Continue Supporting The Hot Meals Program At The Little Havana Activities & Nutrition Centers

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a senior Member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, contacted Governor Crist and the Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation in Tallahassee, urging them to continue supporting the congregate meals program in Miami-Dade County.

The hot meals program, as it is commonly known, is served by the Little Havana Activities and Nutrition Centers of Miami-Dade County (LHANC) to over 1400 low income, minority, at risk seniors. The program receives funds from federal, state, county and municipal governments but the appropriations for the 2007 Fiscal year is forcing LHANC to deny these meals to over 240 seniors.

The State Legislature is considering a funding project that would allow for LHANC to continue serving these meals and Ros-Lehtinen's letter lets them know that the LHANC has her full endorsement of this initiative.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, "The senior citizens that LHANC helps are the most vulnerable in our community. I know that our good Governor and the fine Representatives and Senators from our County delegation have made securing these necessary funds back a top priority. I add my voice to the supporters of the hot meals program because I know very well that these folks depend on these meals for their very survival."
