Governor Minner Announces She Will Nominate Carl C. Danberg for Correction Commissioner

Governor Ruth Ann Minner announced today that she will nominate Carl C. Danberg as Department of Correction Commissioner to replace retiring Commissioner Stan Taylor, who leaves Feb. 1.

"Carl's prior experience as deputy principal assistant to the commissioner at the Department of Correction makes him uniquely qualified to lead this agency," Gov. Minner said. "He is familiar with not only the department, but its staff, and that, combined with his extensive legal knowledge, will help to ensure a smooth transition after Commissioner Taylor's retirement."

Danberg, 42, of Newark, has most recently served as Delaware's Attorney General. Gov. Minner appointed him to the position in 2005 to replace M. Jane Brady, who was sworn in as a judge. Prior to that, he served as Chief Deputy Attorney General since August 2004. Before his recent stint in the Attorney General's Office, Danberg spent eight years as Deputy Principal Assistant to the Commissioner at the Delaware Department of Correction. He was a Deputy Attorney General from 1994 to 1996 and worked in private practice before that. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Delaware and a Major, Judge Advocate General's Corp., in the Delaware Army National Guard. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware and a law degree from the Widener University School of Law. He is a member of the Delaware State Bar, the United States District Court for the District of Delaware, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He and his wife, Barbara, have two daughters.

"I am honored by the faith that the governor has expressed in me and look forward to this new challenge," Danberg said. "I hope to emulate Stan Taylor's strong moral and administrative leadership during my tenure at the Department of Correction."

Gov. Minner's nomination is subject to confirmation by the Delaware State Senate.
