Congressman Ryan Receives Appropriations Subcommittee Appointments

Congressman Tim Ryan (D-Niles) announced today that he was appointed to two subcommittees on the House Committee on Appropriations: the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies ("Labor-HHS") and the Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, and Related Agencies ("Energy and Water").

"These subcommittees have jurisdiction over many important federal departments and agencies that directly impact our congressional district, region, and Ohio," said Congressman Ryan. "I'm very pleased with these assignments and look forward to working with my colleagues on the Appropriations Committee to help restore fiscal discipline in Congress and secure smart, targeted investments for the many important projects in the 17th District and surrounding region."

The Labor-HHS Subcommittee has jurisdiction over the following departments and agencies:

* Department of Education
* Department of Health and Human Services (Except Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry; Food and Drug Administration; Indian Health Services and Facilities; National Institute of Environmental Sciences (formerly EPA/Superfund))
* Department of Labor
* Committee for Purchase From People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled
* Corporation for National and Community Service
* Corporation for Public Broadcasting
* Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service
* Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission
* Institute of Museum and Library Services
* Medicare Payment Advisory Commission
* National Commission on Libraries and Information Science
* National Council on Disability
* National Labor Relations Board
* National Mediation Board
* Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission
* Railroad Retirement Board
* Social Security Administration

The Energy and Water Subcommittee has jurisdiction over the following departments and agencies:

* Bureau of Reclamation (Department of Interior)
