EMBRYONIC STEM CELL VOTE TAKEN IN HOUSE

Citing his strong beliefs regarding the destruction of innocent human life, Congressman Jim Walsh today opposed H.R. 3, a bill offered on the House floor without any amendments that expands federal funding of embryonic stem cell research.

"The federal government should not be in the business of supporting the destruction of life in order to save life," said Walsh. "And the legislation offered today supports the destruction of innocent human life."

While Walsh opposes stem cell research that destroys human life, he supports all other forms of stem cell research, including the use of adult and cord blood stem cell lines and the emerging science of amniotic stem cell research.

Science is showing that the manipulation of adult stem cells and the utilization of amniotic stem cells can deliver the medical breakthroughs expected by the use of embryonic stem cells without the destruction of life.

Since entering Congress, Walsh has supported hundreds of billions of dollars in life saving healthcare research - including $2.2 billion for stem cell research alone.
