Jindal Votes for Legislation Implementing 9/11 Commission Recommendations

Congressman Bobby Jindal (LA-01) today voted in favor of the Implementing the 9/11 Commission Recommendations Act of 2007 (H.R. 1) in the House of Representatives.

The bill will implement a majority of the remaining 9/11 Commission Recommendations by providing risk-based allocations of homeland security grants, attempting to ensure communication interoperability for first responders, improve government information sharing, and prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. It will also strengthen security at our nation's airports and ports.

"Protecting the American people must be the chief concern of our nation's government, and this bill will greatly increase our nation's security," Jindal said. "We have not experienced a terrorist attack on our soil since September 11, 2001, and we must maintain our diligence to prevent any future attacks. This bill will help strengthen our first responders' capabilities to communicate during times of crisis by establishing important stand-alone emergency grants that will help eliminate the current communication barrier that many responders still face more than six years after 9/11."
