Patrick Murphy Sworn In As Member of Congress

Today, Patrick Murphy of Bristol, former U.S. Army Captain and Iraq war veteran, was sworn into office as the member of Congress from Pennsylvania's 8th district. Murphy took the oath of office for the 110th Congress on the floor of the House of Representatives along with his Democratic and Republican colleagues. The 8th district includes Bucks County and parts of Montgomery County and Northeast Philadelphia.

"This is a great day, not just for me and my family, but for families in the 8th district. From the beginning of my campaign I promised to represent not just those who voted for me, but to be everybody's Congressman and that is just what I plan to do," said Congressman Patrick Murphy. "I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work for families in Bucks County, Montgomery County and Northeast Philadelphia. From the streets of Baghdad to the halls of Washington, the fight for the values we believe in continues - and that work starts today."

"I feel extremely blessed and grateful to be given this opportunity and the trust of the families in the 8th district. I take this responsibility seriously and look forward to working hard and making them proud," added Murphy.

Prior to being elected to Congress, Murphy served as a Captain in the U.S. Army as part of the 82nd Airborne Division in Bosnia and Iraq. He is the first and only Iraq war veteran to serve in Congress. He is a former West Point professor and criminal prosecutor and he lives in Bristol with his wife Jenni and their daughter Maggie.
