Congressman Dent commemorates Pearl Harbor Day

U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent (PA-15) issued the following statement in honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day:

"Sixty-five years ago today, the calm of a Sunday morning in America was shattered. On 7 December 1941, the Japanese Imperial Navy staged an unprovoked attack on the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. More than 2,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines lost their lives on that Sunday morning, and countless others were wounded in what President Franklin D. Roosevelt called ‘a day that will live in infamy.'

"Pearl Harbor was a defining moment in America. The attack forged among Americans a commitment to the eradication of the evils of Nazism and other forms of totalitarian rule. From this commitment arose our involvement in a war that showcased the courage and dedication of what Tom Brokaw has labeled ‘the greatest generation.' Raised in the Great Depression, this generation would lead us to prevail in war and return home to build the most prosperous nation in world history. Today it is important that we remember and honor their efforts on behalf of this country and how much we are indebted to them.

"I want to take the opportunity to personally thank all those Pearl Harbor survivors and other veterans of the Second World War who sacrificed so much so that we can have the freedoms we enjoy today. These veterans should rest assured that their efforts will never be forgotten, and that Pearl Harbor does indeed live on in our hearts and minds."
