Biggert to Seniors: It's Open Season To Change Medicare Part D Prescription Plans
"If you're a senior and you want to change your Medicare Part D Prescription Drug plan, now is the time," said U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th).
Said Biggert, "From now until December 31, it's open season. So if you think there is a plan that better suits your needs, now is the time to switch."
The deadline to sign up for the benefit or change between plans is Sunday, December 31.
To date, more than 38 million seniors, or 90 percent of Medicare beneficiaries, now have prescription drug coverage. The average individual cost savings is $1,200 per year.
In Illinois's 13th District, 33,365 seniors have enrolled in the program and employers are using the tax subsidy contained in the law to continue their drug coverage for an additional 21,210 seniors.
To enroll or change plans, seniors need to contact Medicare directly at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227). Medicare representatives are available to answer questions and assist seniors 24 hours a day, seven days a week before the December 31st deadline. Seniors who have additional questions are encouraged to call Biggert's Willowbrook office at (630) 655-2052.
