Fortenberry Votes to Extend Veterans' Benefits

Congressman Jeff Fortenberry yesterday voted to extend important veterans' benefits and to expand the Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance Program to veterans' families.

"The men and women of our Armed Forces have sacrificed greatly and deserve our committed support," Fortenberry said. "This assistance can provide hope and create opportunities for their families."

The expansion of the Eligibility for Survivors and Dependants Educational Assistance Program extends educational assistance benefits to the spouse and children of a person who is a Service Member and has a total disability incurred during active duty.

The legislation also extends expiring veterans' benefits including treatment and rehabilitation for seriously mentally ill and homeless veterans, government markers in private cemeteries, and additional educational assistance allowances for work-study.
