Corker Outlines Competitiveness, Jobs Agenda in Rutherford County

U.S. Senate candidate Bob Corker today outlined his agenda to improve America's competitiveness and job creation strategy in the world marketplace, and said Tennessee businesses and workers must be well equipped to compete against emerging world economies from Europe to Australia to Asia.

"Washington needs more Senators who have first-hand experience with the challenges of building a business, creating jobs, and competing in the marketplace. Having spent the vast majority of my life in the private sector, I know how to create jobs and solve problems," stated Corker, while touring the Ingram Book Company.

Corker discussed the following:

Free and Fair Trade: "If we are going to grow more jobs here, we need to sell more of our products around the world," Corker stated. "By gaining access to foreign markets through free, but fair trade agreements, we sell more products that are made right here in Tennessee."

ANWR and Alternative Energy: Corker said every business has energy costs - gasoline, electricity, and more. "We need to rely less on oil from the Middle East and bring down energy costs. That means permitting environmentally responsible oil production in ANWR and the Outer Continental Shelf. We also need to do more to promote alternative fuels, like ethanol and biodiesel, and research other promising energy technologies, including hydrogen fuel cells, like the one now producing power in Chattanooga, which I helped attract to our city as Mayor."

Permanent Tax Cuts: Another way to keep businesses strong - and create more jobs, Corker continued, is to keep taxes low so more money is available for investing back into the business. "That means making the tax cuts permanent, so that companies can invest in future infrastructure and employees."
