Bucks County Residents Speak Out on Murphy's Misguided Tax Policies, Farmers, Families and Seniors Tell Pat Murphy Why He's Wrong on Taxes
Posted on 19-10-2006

Bristol - Today, Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick joined Bucks County residents at a press conference to tell voters why Pat Murphy's plan to raise taxes would mean disaster for their families and their futures. Fitzpatrick was joined by Tom Trycieki, a third generation farmer, Penny Hallowell a second generation farmer, Andy Raffle and his wife from Lower Makefield, and John Petras, a retiree from Bristol.

"Pat Murphy has stated that he wouldn't disagree with his own party's leadership on any issue," Fitzpatrick said. "That would mean he would agree with Nancy Pelosi and Charlie Rangel when it comes to raising taxes across the board for all Americans. Pat has already advocated a full repeal of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts. What he hasn't talked about is the damaging effect that would have on families across the 8 th district."

The House Democrats' point man on tax policy - Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) - has already laid out a plan for tax hikes, responding with "No question about it" when asked whether those tax hikes would hit every American. Rangel even declined to rule out repealing the popular child tax credit or the marriage penalty reduction, saying "everything has to be on the table."

Pat Murphy has indicated that he would support these tax hikes. Murphy supports a tax policy that keeps the death tax in place, maintains the Alternative Minimum Tax, repeals the child tax credit, and increases taxes on dividends earned by retired Americans and seniors.

"At last night's debate, Pat Murphy was given another chance to say that he would vote against a tax increase on small businesses and family farmers. He failed to make that commitment. He failed and refused to commit to vote against a tax increase on seniors and working families," Fitzpatrick said.

"Pat Murphy has referred to the death tax as the Paris Hilton tax. Well, Paris Hilton doesn't live in Bucks County. Tom Tryceki does and so do many other small business owners and farmers like him. Pat Murphy fundamentally misunderstands how serious and onerous this tax is on farmers and small business owners."
