WEINER CALLS ON NEW STUY-TOWN OWNER TO PRESERVE MIDDLE CLASS HOUSING

New York City - In light of news that Tishman Speyer won a $5.4 billion bid for MetLife Inc.'s Peter Cooper Village and Stuyvesant Town, today Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn & Queens) called on the new owner to make no changes that would affect the complex's affordable housing units.

"Tishman Speyer should honor Stuyvesant Town's history as an affordable housing community and not make any changes that would burden its current residents.

"If just one tenant gets pushed out onto the street under this deal, that's one too many. The desire to make to a buck must not trump preserving New York City's dwindling middle class."

Approximately 75 percent of the more than 11,000 current Stuyvesant Town tenants live in rent-stabilized apartments.
