Press Release - Santorum: "No Amnesty" Policy And Securing Our Borders First Key To Combating Illegal Immigration

Bobby Casey Jr. supports policy breaking the rule of law.

Grove City, Mercer County - U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) today hosted a town hall meeting on Immigration Reform at Grove City College in Mercer County. Santorum sat down with a public audience to discuss illegal immigration and its impact on the Commonwealth; his Borders First Security Act, which takes a first-things-first approach to securing our borders; and the importance of a "No Amnesty" policy with regard to immigration.

"In Pennsylvania, we may not always see the impact of illegal immigration as much as border states, but it is what we don't see everyday that impacts our Commonwealth," said U.S. Senator Rick Santorum. "Did you know that Pennsylvania is losing $300 million or more each year because companies hiring illegal immigrants pay on a cash-only basis and don't deduct income taxes from workers?"

Santorum reviewed his comprehensive strategy to help combat illegal immigration including his borders first security legislation and his "No Amnesty" policy. Santorum's Borders Security First legislation leads the nation in pulling together a national strategy for border security, surveillance, ports of entry information exchange between agencies, increasing the capacity to train border agents and combats human smuggling.

It's estimated that local annual costs of illegal immigration from three areas: education, providing medical services in emergency rooms and incarceration amounts to nearly $365 billion nationwide. In Pennsylvania alone, the current estimated cost is $285 million and is expected to rise to $410 million in 2010 and $812 million in 2020.

Santorum's "No Amnesty" policy helps relieve the stress on our current programs and systems eliminating the benefits of illegal behavior, defending Pennsylvania's communities and preventing identity theft.

Vince Galko, campaign manager for Santorum 2006, said, "Bobby Casey Jr. has been doing anything and everything in an attempt to deceive and distract voters from the fact that he supports amnesty for illegal immigrants. His efforts to manipulate Senator Santorum's voting record are not based in reality, and simply serve as an effort to change the subject away from his support of amnesty."
