Brady Votes to Preserve Parental Notification
Law Protects Minors from Interstate Abortions

Washington, D.C. - Legislation passed today by the U.S. House of Representatives would make it a federal crime subject to a $100,000 fine, or one year in jail, or both for transporting a minor across state lines for an abortion without the minor's parental consent. U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) a long time pro-life and pro-family advocate voted in favor of the Child Custody Protection Act. The measure passed by a 264 to 153 vote.

"Whether pro-life or pro-choice, Americans believe that a parent should be involved in major decisions having long-lasting consequences on the lives of their daughters. A parent or guardian must have the opportunity to provide counsel and share the wisdom of experience. The Child Custody Protection Act will provide grounds for stronger family ties and for greater family involvement," said Brady.

The Child Custody Protection Act prohibits the transporting of an individual under the age of 18 across a state line to obtain an abortion if their own state law requires parental involvement in a minor's abortion decision.
