Hand-Delivered Letter to President Bush

Date: Aug. 22, 2006

August 22, 2006

Dear President Bush,

It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to inform you of the needs of North Dakota, the state I seek to represent. As the endorsed Republican candidate for the United States Senate, I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and Congress to pass legislation important to North Dakota and the entire nation.

As you know, North Dakota and many other states in our nation are in the middle of a severe drought. Our farmers need help through federal disaster aid for losses they have suffered in 2006. As a farmer myself, the need for disaster assistance is real, but I also believe there is an alternative way that we could help farmers plan for disasters in the future. We can take a new approach for the 2007 Farm Bill.

My plan for improving the next Farm Bill comes from ideas from farmers and business leaders across our great state and the nation, as well as from personal experience farming through the last three Farm Bills. It builds disaster assistance around energy production, creates tax-free shelters that would give farmers the ability to save for hard times, and it would save money over the current farm and insurance programs. Because we are now growing energy in addition to food and many other products, we are ready to take agriculture to the next level and help make it more stable for generations to come.

Please review the enclosed information . It outlines my vision of representing North Dakota as a people with a plan instead of a people constantly in crisis. With your support for agriculture, we can make America's rural infrastructure a vital part of our nation's security and the future of our economy.

Thank you for your time and your help in this matter. As you know, North Dakotans overwhelmingly supported your Presidency in the last election, and I want to thank you for the opportunity to present this plan to you today.

Sincerely and with great respect,

Dwight Grotberg
United States Senate Candidate (R)
