Governor and Lt. Governor's Labor Day Statement

DES MOINES-Governor Vilsack and Lt. Governor Pederson issued the following statement in honor of Labor Day:

On Labor Day we honor our working women and men for their contribution to the well-being of our communities. The products and services our workers provide enrich the lives of Iowans and others in all corners of the world.

The workers of Iowa have changed the landscape of this great state and their hard work and determination has helped transform Iowa's economy. Iowans understand that to compete in a 21st century global economy we must be innovative and creative - Iowa's workers are heeding that call.

More than just satisfying simple economic need, our workers have always stepped forward to serve their communities. Their active and vigilant civic participation has ensured greater security and a better quality of life that is reflected in the state's ample educational cultural and recreational opportunities.

Iowa's workers are one of the most valuable of the gifts with which this state is blessed. They possess an intelligence, integrity and determination that make our state a great place to live, work and raise a family. The progress we are making today has set the path for limitless opportunities in our future. On this Labor Day, we encourage Iowans to take a moment to reflect on our workers' success in changing the state's landscape and building a path towards a brighter future for us all.
