Fitzpatrick Supports Bill to Curb Carbon Emissions
PennEnvironment Applauds Fitzpatrick's Environmental Stewardship

Congressman Michael G. Fitzpatrick was a key note speaker at a PennEnvironment press conference on the threat of global warming. "Climate change is one of the largest environmental threats the world faces today and the United States cannot ignore this problem. We must move away from our reliance on fossil fuels, which continue to harm our environment," Fitzpatrick said. "Greenhouse gas emissions will continue increase without strong government leadership, and so I am pleased to cosponsor the Safe Climate Act," Fitzpatrick continued.

Fitzpatrick is a cosponsor of the Safe Climate Act, which sets a goal of halting increases in greenhouse gas emissions in 2010 and reducing emissions to 1990 levels by 2020 by cutting emissions by 2 percent each year. This legislation responds to the problem of global warming with firm targets and means of achieving emission reductions.

The bill Fitzpatrick supports, the Safe Climate Act was introduced by Congressman Waxman (D-CA) on June 20, 2006. In addition to setting greenhouse gas emission targets, this legislation would establish a cap-and-trade program for greenhouse gas emissions that will help attain these targets.
