Ethics from Day One
One of the reasons I entered this congressional race was a growing frustration over reports of scandal and influence peddling in Washington, D.C. I believe that our leaders in Congress should be listening to the people they represent and not to special interest lobbyists. They must be concerned with our future, not with theirs.
Our leaders must take a stand to avoid the influence of special interest money. We must be above reproach as we swear to represent the people of our district. The failure of politicians in Washington to set new standards shows that we need new leaders who are not afraid to lead by example.
* From day one, my staff and I will refuse all lobbyist paid gifts, meals and travel.
* I will support legislation banning all such lobbyist gifts to members of Congress and their staffs.
* I invite my opponent to take the same position.
I won't wait for Republican or Democratic leaders to enact these goals. I'll set the example and encourage other legislators to follow my lead.
