Nusbaum Asks Tough Questions of Oil Executives

--Northeast Wisconsin Residents Face Uncertain Winter--

Nancy Nusbaum, candidate for the 8th Congressional District, sent questions to Milwaukee today for the five oil executives subpoenaed to testify at a government hearing about oil price gouging.

"I would like these executives to explain how fuel prices could spike to record levels while oil companies were making record profits," asked Nusbaum. "It seems inconceivable to me that the hard working people of Wisconsin should have to face the uncertainty of a cold winter, while oil executives and corporations reap huge profits."

Nusbaum is very concerned about the cold Northeast Wisconsin winter and the effects of high heating and gas prices on the working people of the 8th district. Nusbaum poses these questions because she knows that answers are needed now as we start the winter season.

"Hardworking people here in Northeast Wisconsin are anticipating drastic increases in home heating costs this winter. Has there been any discussion of a plan to cap prices on home heating fuel for seniors and low or middle-income families? Has anyone discussed providing home heating fuel assistance, or creating a prepayment plan so individuals can lock in prices at lower levels?" asked Nusbaum.

"Is there a customer rebate plan in effect if the costs do not rise to the anticipated levels?" Nusbaum continued. "Oil companies are again in a position to reap record profits after what has already started to be a chilly winter."
