WWII Generation Leaders Exchange Views on Staying the Course in the International Campaign Against Terrorism

U.S. Rep. Henry J. Hyde (R-IL), Chairman of the House Committee on International Relations, released the following statement regarding his recent visit to the Republic of Singapore:

On the eve of the sixty-first anniversary of the end of the Second World War, we discussed with Singapore's leaders the continuing and imminent threat that international terrorism poses across the globe, from the banks of the Potomac to the Straits of Malacca. Recent events in London have served to underscore that, in the international campaign against terrorism, there is no substitute for victory.

The Delegation expressed sincere thanks to the Prime Minister of Singapore for his nation's outstanding cooperation in curbing the international terrorist threat, including his government's expeditious implementation of the Container Security Initiative in this bustling port city-state. Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew emphasized the critical importance for the United States and the American people to stay the course in confronting terrorism in the volatile Middle East and South Asian regions. He noted that the security of not only the United States, but that of free nations around the world, including Singapore, hangs in the balance.
