Council for Citizens Against Government Waste Political Action Committee Endorses Sanford Based on His Record of Government Reforms and Fighting for Tax Relief

(Columbia, SC) - Governor Mark Sanford today received the endorsement of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste Political Action Committee (CCAGWPAC) at a press conference in Columbia.

"Governor Sanford's reforms have saved South Carolina taxpayers tens of millions of dollars," CCAGWPAC Chairman Tom Schatz said. "From cutting wait times at the DMV to selling unnecessary government property, Mark Sanford has made a real difference. He is a true taxpayer hero, and we proudly endorse his bid for reelection."

The press conference was held at the 180-year-old State Hospital campus in downtown Columbia, the sale of which is expected to net the state as much as $30 million. A new residential community will take the place of empty residential halls and aging office buildings. The transformation will also help revitalize Columbia's Bull Street corridor.

"I'm honored to receive this endorsement on behalf of the taxpayers who don't think that government should grow any faster than their own pocketbooks, purses, and wallets," added Governor Sanford. "That's why you won't find any more $800 hotel stays by government employees in Paris, prisoners in South Carolina now make their own grits and eggs, and why I will continue to fight to restructure the state's constitutional offices."

Governor Sanford's record on fighting government waste and controlling the amount of money that South Carolina taxpayers send to Columbia stands in sharp contrast to the record of his opponent, 28-year Columbia insider Tommy Moore.

"Tommy Moore has a completely different outlook on fiscal responsibility than Governor Sanford," added Sanford for Governor Campaign Manager Jason Miller. "Moore opposes returning excess tax dollars to the taxpayers, believes in raising taxes to cover budget shortfalls, and in fact proposed the largest tax increase in South Carolina history. It should come as no surprise that his only substantive policy proposal as a gubernatorial candidate involves raising taxes and imposing financial obligations on our small businesses."
