Two years after a contentious midnight showdown resulted in a record state-tax increase, lawmakers turned their attention Tuesday to cleaning up the myriad of problems with the legislation.
The most significant revision is targeted at "adult entertainment," including brothels and strip clubs.
Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus, D-Las Vegas, wants to rework the live-entertainment tax passed in 2003 to better include strip clubs and to capture the brothel industry - which has long wanted to be taxed as a way to cement its legitimacy in the state.
"I think we can make a good argument that adult entertainment puts a special kind of burden on the state that justifies it being taxed in this way," Titus said.
