Kennedy's Statement on Marriage Protection Amendment
Washington, D.C. - Congressman Mark Kennedy voted for the Marriage Protection Amendment today, which proposed an amendment to the Constitution of the United States that marriage shall consist of one man and one woman.
"The Defense of Marriage Act, overwhelmingly passed by Congress and signed by President Clinton, could have and should have been the last word on marriage from Congress. Unfortunately, a few local politicians and radical judges have placed it and traditional marriage in jeopardy, requiring Congress to act once again. This amendment would settle the question once and for all, and stop these liberal activists from redefining marriage in Minnesota and the rest of the country."
