Statement of Congresswoman Gwen Moore On Raising the Minimum Wage

Today Congresswoman Gwen Moore released the following statement:

"It appears that after six years of granting obscene tax cuts for the rich, Republicans are finally realizing they have no choice but to respond to the pressure they feel from all sides to acknowledge the plight of low-wage workers and raise the minimum wage.

"For Democrats, the choice between padding the bank accounts of multi-millionaires and lifting millions of hard-working Americans out of poverty is an easy one.

"I call on the Republican leadership to allow a fair and clean vote on raising the minimum wage before the House adjourns for August recess. It will be a true test of the priorities of the Republican Party to see if they will allow an up-or-down vote on the minimum wage without linking it to windfall benefits for wealthy individuals and corporations."
