McIntyre Attends Voting Rights Act Bill Signing

Washington, D.C. - At a ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House, U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre joined civil rights leaders, Members of Congress, and many others for the historic bill signing by the President of the extension of the Voting Rights Act.

Congressman McIntyre stated, "In 1965, landmark legislation was enacted to ensure the right of all Americans to vote. Today, that right was reaffirmed for another 25 years, and I am pleased to have supported this bill when it passed the U.S. House of Representatives. Our democracy is founded on this basic premise of voting rights for all, and we must always strive and work for an unwavering commitment to voting rights."

HR 9, the Fannie Lou Hamer, Rosa Parks, and Coretta Scott King Voting Rights Act Reauthorization, amends and extends the Voting Rights Act of 1965 for an additional 25 years.
