Harris Visits Alma Mater, Overton High School; Announces Candidacy For Congress

November 17, 2005
Press Release:

This week, Lee Harris formally declared his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives. He visited Overton High School, his alma mater, to visit with students and make the announcement. (See attached photos.)

"The first group of folks I told was a group of students at my old high school, Overton High. There I met with Mr. Williams' economics students. We talked about the law, economics and how the government can improve the lives of working families.

"I grew up in Memphis. I am a product of good public schools, a steadfast church, and two stern, caring parents. Now, my wife and I are raising our own son here.

"I want for the citizens of the Ninth District what I want for my own family: a good education and committed teachers, like Mr. Williams; the opportunity to work for fair pay; dependable healthcare; and a chance to retire with something to show for a lifetime of effort.

"I don't know if the government can do it all, but I believe it can help.

"My campaign will be a grass-roots effort, face-to-face, house-after-house, block-by-block. I want to listen to as many people in this District as possible. I want to introduce myself and my ideas. But, as important, I want to hear from you, my neighbors."
