Burns Officially Files Papers For Georgia's New 12th District

(Atlanta, Georgia) - With his eldest son Andrew by his side, former 12th District Congressman Max Burns today officially filed his candidacy papers at the Georgia State Capitol to run for Georgia's new 12th District. Burns then embarked on a four-day "Down Home" bus tour of the new district.

"12th District Georgians deserve a Congressman who is one of them and understands their values," said Burns. "As their Congressman, I will work for a safer, secure America by taking the fight to the terrorist to win the War on Terror and protecting our borders so terrorist may not harm us on our own streets. I will work for economic growth to create opportunities for our communities by supporting policies that create jobs and a skilled, knowledgeable workforce. And I will protect our freedoms and Georgia values of faith and family by protecting life and marriage."

The Burns campaign is in a strong position nearly six months before Election Day. Finance reports filed with the Federal Elections Commission early this month showed Burns out raising his opponent for the second straight fundraising period.

In early March, a poll showed the race to be a statistical dead-heat with more respondents saying it was time to give a new person a chance than to re-elect Athens Congressman John Barrow. Just last week the political editor of the non-partisan The Rothenberg Political Report said this was one of the top ten races that Republicans could pick up from the Democrats.

"My goal is to build the strongest campaign possible and to take our common-sense, conservative message directly to the voters who live and work in the new 12th District," said Burns. "This election is about who you can trust, and if the future generations that want to live, work and raise a family here in Georgia are to have a chance, we've got to get this country back on track."

Burns has taken his listening tour to each of the 22 counties of the 12th District in an effort to build the broadest-based and most focused grassroots campaign in 12th District history.
