Burns Statement On The Georgia Supreme Court's Ruling Upholding The Georgia Constitutional Amendment Banning Gay Marriage

(Savannah, Georgia) Max Burns, former Congressman running to represent Georgia's new 12th District, today released the following statement regarding the Georgia Supreme Court's ruling upholding Georgia's constitutional amendment banning gay marriage:

"I'm pleased to see that the Georgia Supreme Court ruled in favor of the people and upheld the 2004 constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in Georgia. An overwhelming majority of Georgians voted to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman and the Georgia Supreme Court has now upheld their wishes. As a husband and father, a candidate and a Congressman, I've supported traditional marriage and voted to ban gay marriage while in Congress, and was proud to support this very amendment. I've always supported the sanctity of marriage and protected the values that are important to our families.

"While I applaud the Supreme Court's decision, I'm interested to see Congressman Barrow's reaction to this ruling since he has in the past been a strong supporter for homosexual rights and opposed this amendment in 2004. Congressman Barrow said that ‘gays were the most beleaguered minorities in the country' and believes homosexuality ‘is the civil rights issue of our time.' But since he changes positions as frequently as home addresses, it wouldn't surprise me to see him flip-flop on this issue once again."
