Statement of Congressman Michael G. Fitzpatrick in Response to Flood Warnings along the Delaware River

This week's heavy rains along the entire Northeast Coast have saturated the ground, overwhelmed highways and railways and now threaten to swell the banks of the Delaware River and Neshaminy Creek and flood our coastal communities. Congressman Fitzpatrick is closely monitoring the situation and released the following statement:

"I share my constituents' concern that these heavy rains will create a situation that could surpass the damage from last year's floods. The torrent of rain that has soaked Bucks County and regions to our north now threaten to swell the Delaware River above its banks. I am in close contact with local, state, and federal authorities as well as the Delaware River Basin Commission for up-to-date information on the state of the river and what needs to be done to ensure that our residents are protected.

For those in the flood plain who have been urged to evacuate, please do so with all deliberate speed. According to national and local reports, the Delaware River is expected to crest at 26 feet in Trenton tomorrow morning. A 26.2 foot crest can be expected in Yardley. The Neshaminy Creek is estimated to crest at 13 feet this afternoon; 4 feet above flood stage. These are all estimates, and situations can change at any time. Please secure your properties and move to safety.

Also, my office is ready to provide support to any constituent in need of assistance with National Flood Insurance Program claims, or any other matter. Please contact my Langhorne office at (215) 752-7711 and my Doylestown office at (215) 348-7511."
