BAKERSFIELD - Assembly Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, of Bakersfield, will be presented with the California Rifle and Pistol Association's Outstanding Legislator Award during the group's 130th anniversary banquet on Saturday in Irvine.
"I am honored to receive this award from a group with a long and proud history of protecting the rights of Californians," McCarthy said. "My son and I recently went hunting together, enjoying an activity that is truly part of our national heritage, and I will continue working to preserve the Second Amendment rights of all conscientious gun owners and sellers."
McCarthy is the author of Assembly Concurrent Resolution 73, which will require the California Law Revision Commission to review the state's confusing firearms laws and recommend ways to reorganize and clarify them. ACR 73, adopted by the Assembly on a 77-0 vote and now pending in the Senate, would not make any changes in the scope of criminal liability in existing laws.
"Laws are not supposed to be for legal experts only - firearms owners, licensed dealers and law enforcement officers need to be able to interpret these provisions in order to comply with the law," McCarthy said.
