Kennedy on Texas Redistricting Case

Today, Senator Edward M. Kennedy released the following statement on the Texas redistricting case:

"The Supreme Court had to act here only because the Bush Administration rejected the advice of career attorneys in the Justice Department, who long ago concluded that this redistricting plan violated the Voting Rights Act. This case is further proof that the Voting Rights Act and a commitment to its enforcement are essential to make certain that all voters, regardless of their race or ethnic background, have an equal opportunity to participate in the elections."
