Attorney General Mike Beebe's Response To The Arkansas Supreme Court Ruling On Education

LITTLE ROCK - "We all want the best education for our children. Arkansas' taxpayers, legislators and Governor have made significant investments toward bettering education and working to ensure that Arkansas maintains a constitutionally sound school system.

I respect the passion the Justices have shown in their deliberations to find measurable improvements in our state's education system and to see evidence of those improvements now. While financial resources are obviously important, constitutionality is about much more than just money.

The taxpayers are entitled to know precisely how effectively their money is being spent before they are asked to spend more. The Department of Education is still looking at education spending during the first school year after reforms were put in place and at how much of that money remains unspent by the school districts.

I am confident that the leadership of this state will work together to complete these reforms and to provide our children with a high-quality education system."
