Congressman Henry Brown & The Congressional Friends of Canada Caucus Celebrate Their Official Kicko

Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R-SC) and the Congressional Friends of Canada Caucus celebrated the official kickoff of the Congressional Friends of Canada Caucus last night with a special guest of honor, Canadian Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Wilson.

Brown, a Co-Chair of the Caucus, welcomed members and guests to the "Meet Me at the Border" event and emphasized the importance of U.S.-Canada relations. "The United States and Canada are each other's largest trading partners with over $1.3 billion in trade crossing the Canada-US border every day," Brown said. "More than 5 ½ million American jobs depend on Canadian imports to the United States."

Congressman Brown recognized the other founders of the Caucus: Small Business Committee Chairman Don Manzullo (R-IL), Congressman Jim Obserstar (D-MN) and Congressman Michael Michaud (D-ME); and thanked them for their efforts in making their fellow members aware of the importance of the United States' relationship with Canada.

"The Caucus will focus on border security and commerce, energy cooperation, and most importantly, tourism" Brown noted. "Coastal South Carolina has long been a destination for tourists from around the world, but especially from our neighbors to the north in Canada." He also made special mention of the annual CAN-AM days in Myrtle Beach and the recent meeting of the Canada-United States Interparliamentary Exchange in Charleston.
