Tax Reform

Tax Reform

I believe that tax relief should go first to hard-working middle-class families. But the Bush tax cuts have gone primarily to the privileged. The nonpartisan Brookings Institute has found that three-quarters of the Bush tax cuts went to the wealthiest fifth of Americans—and the rest of us will have to pay for them someday. The repeal of the estate tax alone has given a huge break to the super-wealthy while costing us $56 billion. In Congress I will work to make sure our tax code is simple to understand, is free of loopholes that benefit special interests, and rewards hard work over privilege. I will fight to shift the tax burden back off the middle class.
