ALLARD CHAMPIONS RENEWABLE ENERGY AT TUESDAY EXPO

U.S. Senator Wayne Allard made the following statement at the 2006 Clean Energy EXPO Tuesday. The EXPO is co-sponsored by the Senate Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus and is a showcase for renewable energy and energy efficient technologies that are being developed by private and government entities.

"As a founder and current co-chairman of the Senate Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus, I certainly appreciate the contributions that renewable energy sources and energy efficiency technology make," said Senator Allard.

"National security, increased energy costs and tighter supplies of fossil fuels are forcing us to look in the direction of a more balanced energy policy," Senator Allard said. "More attention is being given to clean energy technologies by industry and consumers."

"Great opportunities exist for solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, fuel cells and hydro to make significant contributions. But we should also focus on increasing energy efficiency - saving a megawatt of energy is faster, cleaner and more effective than producing one," Senator Allard said.

"I have long been supportive of federal renewable energy research dollars - for NREL and others to continue their great work in trying to develop both new technology and ways to bring down the cost of current technologies," Senator Allard said.

The Senate Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus is a bi-partisan caucus. There are currently 36 Members, more than one-third of the Senate.
