Jo Ann Davis Statement on Senate Passage of Immigration Legislation

"The United States Senate had an opportunity to pass immigration reform legislation that would immediately strengthen our border security while addressing the current illegal immigration problem that we have here within our borders. Instead, the Senate passed legislation that, while strengthening our borders, also provides what amounts to amnesty for individuals who broke our laws and entered this country illegally. The Senate bill rewards those for breaking the law, and allows illegal aliens to circumvent our immigration laws," said Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis.

"I believe that Congress should pass immigration legislation that strengthens our borders by focusing on border security. Amnesty has no place in this legislation. As the House and Senate now meet to combine their two respective pieces of legislation into one final bill, it is essential that the issue of illegal immigrants within our borders is rectified with a policy that is not amnesty for lawbreakers," added Davis.

"We must strengthen our borders and enforce the immigration laws that currently exist," added Davis.
