GONZALEZ STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT BUSH'S IMMIGRATION SPEECH

Congressman Charlie Gonzalez issued the following statement in response to the Predsident's speech on immigration:

"The President's proposal is fraught with more risks than any potential benefits it may provide in securing our borders. It is an ill-advised use of National Guard resources which are already overextended. The President has chosen a poor policy initiative to appease the extreme wing of his party instead of boldly leading our nation to a practical and effective immigration policy that bolsters border security and promotes our economic interests."
