OLVER AND FRCOG ANNOUNCE FEDERAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DESIGNATION
Congressman John W. Olver (D-1st District) and the Franklin Regional Council of Governments (FRCOG) received confirmation last week that the FRCOG has been awarded federal Economic Development District (EDD) designation by the U.S. Economic Development Administration. With this designation, the FRCOG has been invited to submit an application for grant funding to continue their economic development planning activities as well as provide technical assistance in support of municipal and regional projects through their Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Program. The FRCOG is appreciative of the support by Congressman Olver to facilitate the receipt of this designation.
Olver said, "Franklin County is not only one of the most rural areas of the state, it is also one of the poorest. For the region to prosper, it must strengthen and expand its infrastructure, employment opportunities and work force. Sustained economic growth in rural areas can only be achieved through enhanced competitiveness and cooperation within our regions. The FRCOG has demonstrated their ability to think, act and plan regionally and through this designation they will be able to strengthen their already strong tools and ideas to help add jobs, eliminate blight and improve the quality of life in Franklin County."
