Statement of Congresswoman Bono on Immigration Reform and Border Security
The following is a statement from Congresswoman Mary Bono (CA-45) regarding today's immigration rallies and federal legislative efforts to bolster border security and address comprehensive immigration reform.
"It is the responsibility of our government to ensure the safety and security of its people, and I believe that having a secure border is a fulfillment of that responsibility. Regaining control over our borders is of the utmost concern for our national and economic security. While I am strong on border security, I also firmly believe that true immigration reform must work in tandem with a non-amnesty guest worker program.
We are a country made up of rights and laws and while I respect the constitutional right of today's protesters to peaceably assemble, when those rights are exercised and laws are enforced, we are a stronger country. I understand that some may disagree with my position, but I will continue to fight for what I believe is right for the United States of America."
