Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard Calls for Passage of Legislation to Expand Access to Affordable, Quality and Reliable Health Coverage for America's Families

May 1-7 is "Cover the Uninsured Week." To help the millions of Americans who work but have no health insurance, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard is calling upon the congressional leadership to pass three key bills that would cover more than 23 million of America's uninsured.

"More than 6.7 million people in California are uninsured, and the number increases every year. In Los Angeles County, more than 2.5 million people are estimated to lack health insurance. Almost all of these uninsured individuals live in a household with at least one worker, but they are unable to afford insurance and their employers do not offer coverage. This is wrong and we need to act," said Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) who sits on the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations Subcommittee.

The congresswoman continued, "Too many working, uninsured Americans go to bed every night worrying about what will happen to them and their families if a major illness or injury strikes. This is a national scandal. We need to work together - on both sides of the political aisle - to ensure that all working Americans have access to affordable, quality and reliable health coverage."
