"I am deeply saddened by the news that aid workers from the World Central Kitchen, including an American citizen, were killed while providing food and humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians in Gaza. I extend my deepest condolences to their families and loved ones. This is a heartbreaking tragedy in a dangerous theater of war, apparently as the result of an errant IDF air strike, which should be thoroughly investigated. The work that organizations like the World Central Kitchen undertake is vital. This tragic incident underscores the urgent need to decisively defeat Hamas, free the hostages, surge humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians and reach a negotiated resolution of the ongoing conflict, as called for by the Biden administration, in a manner that lays the foundation for a just and lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinian people. "
