Speaker Hastert Congratulates U.S. Trade Rep. Rob Portman

Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert (R-IL) today released the following statement regarding the appointment of U.S. Trade Rep. Rob Portman as White House Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

"I want to congratulate U.S. Trade Rep., Ambassador Rob Portman on his newly appointed position as the White House Director of the Office of Management and Budget. Rob is a true friend and the White House is fortunate to have such a strong leader and effective communicator.

"Republicans in Congress look forward to continuing to work closely with him to strengthen the growing economy, keep a tight reign on federal spending, and reform entitlement programs.

"Rob's experience as U.S. Trade Representative, Chairman of the Elected Leadership for House Republicans, Vice Chairman of the Budget Committee, as well as a member of the House Ways and Means and Homeland Security Committees, will help him serve the President and benefit the American people."
