LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON THE SHAM IMPEACHMENT OF SECRETARY MAYORKAS

Statement

"The baseless impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas does nothing to fix the situation at our Southern border or our broken immigration system. This political stunt was ordered by Marjorie Taylor Greene and Donald Trump and pursued by extreme MAGA Republicans in the House despite not having a shred of evidence that an impeachable offense was committed.

This entire Congress, House Republicans have pursued chaos instead of working to make life better for hardworking American taxpayers. Instead of a responsible, realistic or reasonable agenda, MAGA extremists have become a party of insurrections, illegitimate investigations and impeachments. House Democrats remain ready, willing and able to work with our Republican colleagues to address the challenges at the border and fix our broken immigration system. We need traditional Republicans to join us.

This sham impeachment is now sent to the Senate with two strong bipartisan votes of the House in opposition. Secretary Mayorkas is a good man, a patriotic man and a career public servant. He will continue to serve our country with integrity."
