Whip Clark Statement on the Ceasefire Agreement to Release Hostages and Provide Humanitarian Aid

Press Release

Date: Nov. 22, 2023
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Foreign Affairs

"I am grateful a temporary ceasefire agreement has been reached to return Israeli hostages to their anguished families and provide innocent civilians in Gaza with desperately needed aid. This marks a vital step toward healing shattered families and de-escalating the violence that has claimed thousands of civilian lives. I am encouraged that this agreement facilitates a continued truce if Hamas releases additional hostages.

It will be a long road ahead as we forge the peaceful future that Israeli and Palestinian children deserve. I am committed to ensuring that the Israeli people can live without the threat of Hamas and that Palestinians have true self-determination. To that end, we must reengage with a peace process that is centered on a permanent two-state solution.

I'm grateful for the leadership of President Biden and Secretary Blinken in facilitating this breakthrough. House Democrats will continue working with the Administration to forge a just, secure, and lasting peace."
