Colorado Leaders Push for State to Continue Growing as a Quantum Hub to Support Jobs, Innovation & the Economy

Press Release

Date: Oct. 6, 2023
Location: Denver, CO

"The State of Colorado has allocated millions of dollars to strengthen the region's quantum capacities. Recently, we approved a $1.5 million grant program administered by CU Boulder's CUbit initiative dedicated to helping startups transition quantum technologies out of the lab. In the past five years alone, we have used more than $10 million in tax incentives and over $1 milion in direct cash investment to help local quantum companies thrive, including Atom Computing, Quantinuum, Infleqtion, Maybell, and others.

Our commitment to quantum is only growing stronger. To help reduce red tape and accelerate these investments, my administration will recommend that QIS be added to Colorado's list of industries eligible for Advanced Industries Early-Stage Capital and Retention Grants. If the Hub is funded through Phase 2, the undersigned governments intend to devote up to $193 million over the next decade to advancing QIS in the region, more than $100 million of which is authorized under existing programs without new legislative approvals and $110,000 of which is designated for Phase 1. Our region's quantum ambitions extend beyond our local endeavors. We recently established an agreement with the Government of Finland, signifying a transnational commitment to foster advancements in quantum technology. This partnership underscores our mutual determination to leverage quantum research and innovation to drive economic growth and societal progress."
