Statement from Senators Warren, Markey and Congressman Keating on Healey Administration Plans for Replacement of Cape Cod Bridges

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

"We commend the Healey administration, MassDOT and the Army Corps of Engineers for this detailed, strategic, and actionable plan to utilize this federal funding opportunity for the replacement of the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges. After multiple failed bids by the Baker administration, Massachusetts now has fighting chance to start replacing the bridges due a competitive application that meets the eligibility standards for federal investment. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to invest in our country's infrastructure, and has already brought billions of dollars in federal funding home to the Commonwealth.

President Biden allocated $350 million toward a total commitment of $600 million for the Cape Cod Canal bridges in his Fiscal Year 2024 budget, and Senators Markey and Warren secured that initial $350 million in the Senate's Fiscal Year 2024 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act last month. As Congress returns to session in September, the Massachusetts Delegation will continue their push to secure FY24 funding for the Cape Cod Bridges replacement project in the final version of the spending package."
