Capito Votes to Restore Fairness to Campaign Finance Law

WASHINGTON - Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) today voted for legislation that takes an important step towards restoring fairness in campaign finance regulations. The 527 Reform Act (H.R. 513) subjects so-called 527 groups to the same rules other organizations attempting to influence federal elections have to follow.

"One of the primary goals of the campaign finance legislation passed in 2002 was to help get big money out of politics," said Rep. Capito. "Unfortunately, a few wealthy donors are exploiting loopholes in the law, resulting in a system where an anonymous few are able to unfairly influence elections."
