At Senator Cortez Masto's Urging, White House Moves to Protect Women Seeking Reproductive Care

In response to Senator Catherine Cortez Masto's (D-Nev.) call to update the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act to protect the privacy of women seeking reproductive care, the Biden Administration proposed a new rule to do just that, preventing the private medical information of women receiving abortions from being used against them.

"I've been calling on the Biden administration to protect the privacy of women seeking abortions since before Roe v. Wade was struck down, and this proposal is an important step forward," said Senator Cortez Masto. "Women's rights in Nevada and across the country are under attack by right-wing extremists, and I'll keep working with the administration to ensure women can access the reproductive care they need."

Senator Cortez Masto has been fierce advocate for women's reproductive rights. After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Senator Cortez Masto introduced the Freedom to Travel for Health Care Act of 2022 to ensure legal protections for women traveling across state lines to receive reproductive care. She has urged the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to protect the data privacy of women seeking reproductive health care and is an original cosponsor of the SAFER Health Act to protect women's personal health information related to abortion care.
