House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) offered the following statement after Kevin McCarthy was elected to serve as Speaker of the House for the 118th Congress:

"It's the beginning of a new day in America. The American people chose to end Democrat's single-party control and put Republicans in charge of the House of Representatives as a check on the Biden administration. Republicans are ready to use our new majority to deliver on our Commitment to America and lead on solutions to create an economy that's strong, a nation that's safe, a future that's built on freedom, and a government that's accountable.

"Kevin McCarthy will lead us on our charge to rebuild a government of, by, and for the people--and I congratulate him on becoming the next Speaker of the House. He has put in the work necessary to lead, traveling the country and advancing an agenda that will improve Americans' lives. He has demonstrated poise, determination, and a willingness to listen to a broad coalition of voices within our conference. I also applaud his commitment to restoring power to the committees, which are the proper venue to craft and debate legislation.

"I'm hopeful as we were able to unify behind Kevin today, and I look forward to getting to work. The best is yet to come."
