Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Reproduction

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) issued the following statement after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a revision to the Risk Evaluation Mitigation Strategy (REMS) for abortion-inducing drugs:

"At a time when the FDA should be focusing on restoring Americans' trust in our public health agencies, it has instead issued a decision that is seemingly contrary to its mission statement of protecting public health by ensuring the safe use of pharmaceuticals. By removing the in-person requirement for dispensing abortion pills, the agency is sacrificing one of the safeguards against its potential misuse and abuse and could jeopardize the safety of women. Further, expanding the use of abortion pills will lead to more innocent lives lost to the tragedy of elective abortion."
